These paintings were created after I attended the launching ceremony of the nuclear submarine USS Springfield (SSN-761), January 4,1992 in Groton, CT. Originally, they were intended as a protest to the first Persian Gulf War (1990-1991). Today, nuclear submarines raise another concern in light of contamination of the oceans, the environmental accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan and the radiation released. Either by accident or attack, the nuclear submarine is a potential environmental disaster waiting to happen as it traverses the world's oceans.
