2020-2021. This pause in our daily routine, this stay-at-home life because of COVID-19, has been an opportunity for me to reflect on my art, expanding my painting ideas. I’m still very much interested in the Environment. Instead of focusing on water and threats of pollution, I’m now contemplating the idea of the Earth itself. I’ve been learning about the Earth's elements. Going back to the earliest discoveries, these elements were integrated into ideas of philosophy and the visible planets. I’ve been reading about Alchemy. The seven known elements of the ancient world (lead, tin, iron, copper, mercury, silver and gold) related to the seven visible planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus, Mercury, Moon and Sun). These elements were known as the Planetary Metals. This is a time of experimentation. No expectations. Just seeing what develops, focusing on my work and seeing where it will go.

Earth: the elements
