These paintings and drawings are inspired by the prehistoric architecture of neolithic stone ruins found in northern Europe. They are called "hunebedden", graves of the ancient ones. I visited twenty-five of these sites in the Drente area of Holland. They suggest the beginning of abstract thought: contemplation of death, of time passsing, of the universe and humankind's place in it. I see a relationslhip between man's observation of stellar patterns in the night sky and the positioning of huge rocks at special (sacred) places for burial of the dead.
