My work addresses the effects of pollution that is in many of our water systems. Toxic chemicals and industrial waste contaminate streams, lakes, bays and oceans. The “Troubled Waters” paintings reflect this conflict between the laws of nature and our attempts to artificially control the environment. Patterns of gaskets and other mechanical shapes are incorporated into the paintings, representing herbicides, pesticides, rainwater run-off and other unnatural substances that seep into groundwater. Debris crowds the marine environment. Fish mutate into imaginary forms. A change is taking place as nature reacts to this disruption.
Troubled Waters - paintings
13 Moons2016acrylic on canvas
30"x30"Whether we stop pollution or not, nature will evolve in some way. My vision depicts fish and other marine life not only in the sea but in the sky; a total reversal of the natural order.
Depletion2015acrylic on canvas
40" x 40"Depletion visualizes the state of water in the future, with few life forms left. What is there has mutated and is unknown.

Other Worlds II2013acrylic on canvas
40" x 48"Other Worlds II suggests that the marine environment will adapt somehow to this influx of chemical and toxic substances. Perhaps water will become different from what we know, as a result of our interference with the natural state of the environment.
Atrazine I2012acrylic on canvas
40" x 48"Atrazine I refers to the pesticide made by Dupont. It is used frequently in lawn care. It's a harmful endocrine disruptor that causes reproductive defects in frogs and fish and is commonly found in US waterways. The molecular structure of Atrazine is drawn on the surface of the painting.
