The cut-outs/collages evolved out of the Troubled Waters paintings. I wanted to get rid of the rectangular edge of paper/canvas/frame, and allow the shapes, colors and textures to stand on their own.

25" x 28"A fisherman told me that some fish are attracted to the debris that is in the water. The neon green fish in Toxic Charge has been affected by toxic chemicals and suggests mutations that are the possible effects of pollution.

19.5" x 28"Red Tide refers to the algae blooms that appear in nearby waters. The blooms give off a toxin known as Alexandrium that is potentially lethal to humans.

Atrazine II2012acrylic and tempera on cut paper
29" x 25.5"Atrazine II refers to the pesticide made by Dupont. It is used frequently in lawn care. It's a harmful endocrine disruptor that causes reproductive defects in frogs and fish and is commonly found in US waterways. The molecular structure of Atrazine is drawn on the surface of the painting with a thin, white Sharpie marker.
